Hush, released in 2016, is currently playing on Netflix. This film is maybe one of my favorite horror/suspense films of all time. A warning for some, you may not like since it has no real sound other than some suspenseful music. This film is silent for a reason. The protagonist of this film is deaf. There is sign language at times but mostly the viewer will have to watch this movie with the subtitles. However, I do not feel that that takes away from the adventure within the film. Our deaf author, Maddie, has chosen to live in a secluded area in the woods alone where she writes. Her only companions are her cat, Bitch, and her two neighbors. Her character shows what being deaf can feel like and the isolation a deaf person feels, especially when a killer is out in the woods. There is not much pretext to this film. It gets to the suspense quickly with Maddie and the killer, who at first is masked but soon reveals his face. Maddie is now in a fight for her life where she lacks an advantage. This movie was amazing. I enjoyed every moment of it. Also left me with a notion to stay away from the woods of isolation. ~CeCe From the studio that brought us ‘God’s Not Dead’ and ‘What If’, Pure Flix Entertainment brings us ‘Hope Bridge. This is a great movie for the current generation. There seems to be so much talk of suicide in the news this day, young and old. This is one boy’s journey of pain, loss and hope. Sixteen year old Jackson (Boo Boo Stewart from Twilight) has just lost his father. The family finds out that it was suicide and his father jumped from a local bridge. When Jackson gets into a fight at school over something another student says, he’s suspended and sent to see licensed psychologist, Dr. Eric Grant (Kevin Sorbo). This leads him to a therapy session where he meets Sopie. He enlists her in helping him to find answers to explain his father’s suicide. But will the answers he finds bring him comfort or just make the pain worse? In this journey of sucide, loss and struggle will Jackson find the support he needs to continue on? What will he discover about his father that may lead to his own final decision? This film is a great Public Service Announcement to all those who have dealt with/are dealing with suicide in thier life. It supports the the awareness and prevention of suicide that seems so common in today’s society. A warning that for some it may be too heart breaking to watch the affects of suicide in this film. We see an acting side of Stewart few have seen. In Twilight he always had a smile on his face. Here we see sorrow, pain, even anger in this young actor’s face. It shows great versatility in an actor of his age. I encourage others to watch this film. I hope that you can find hope to deal with the pain you may be facing. I also pray that for those that struggle that you will find support and be able to let go when you can find the answers or the answers you find are not the ones you seek. ~CeCe One man and his girlfriend are part of a local ministry when he takes a risk and leaves her and that ministry behind. Fast forward fifteen years, the same man, Ben Walker (Kevin Sorbo), is walking into an office building on his way to a business meeting. His life is perfect. He has a high paying job. He’s just been made a pertner at the banking investment firm he works for. He jus proposed to a wealthy female in New York. Plus, with his promotion, he bought a new car. Oh yeah, sounds like the good life. Until that brand new car goes haywire and he wakes up back in the the little town he left behind. The angel, Mike, tows Ben’s car and sends him to meet his family. He welcomes Ben into the ‘What If’ complex. Ben is still confused. He recognizes his old girlfriend, Wendy, but not the kids in the house or even the house itself. He becomes even more confused when they go to church on Sunday morning nad he’s the new pastor and is expected to preach. Still thinking he is a hot shot bank investor he shuns his family and his ministry and seeks answers. His response to the ‘What If’ complex is “What if I don’t want to change?” This is God’s wake up call to Ben. What if he hadn’t gotten on that bus fifteen years ago? What if he had returned in eight months like he told Wendy? What if he hadn’t gotten in that brand new car that day. All Ben can think about is how good is life was as a bank investor. But was it really all that grand? This film explains the ‘What if’ of life. What if we hadn’t made the choices we made? How would our life be different? Does God ever give a glimpse of what we could have had if our choice had been different? Does He give us the chance to make the necessary change and get our life back on track? Join Ben Walker on his quest. The only way for him to return is to commit himself fully to the ministry in the small town he left behind. Can he give into the will of God and forget his grand, high palying life or will he die forever wondering ‘What if’? This movie left me with questions about my own life. Lately I’ve spent a lot of time wondering ‘What if’? What if I didn’t work in the job I have? What if I lived somewhere else? What if I was that person making a lot money? I find myself asking these questions daily, but without much answer. The message of the movie kind of hit home, Surrender fully, that is how God can change our life. Merry Christmas dear viewers!!!
I've been busy lately. I have one final fairy tale analysis that I'm finishing up. A book review coming the next week. And I'm still finishing a book. Then I have another book. I'll be going back to school soon. But don't worry, with the new year around the corner I'll still remember to post regularly. With the Christmas season here I decided to go see a movie. Sorry, I did not go see the new Star Wars movie. If anyone ruins this movie for me, be prepared to be blocked, lol. Instead I went to see Krampus. Seemed fitting with some of the other groups I'm currently involved with. Here is a link to the review of movie. It was good, but it wasn't great. I feel it kind of missed it's mark. http://imustbehallucinating.com/wordpress/krampus-movie-review/ More coming with the new year. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night! ~CeCe *WARNING: inspired by true events only, this is not a true story and is still a work of fiction. Inspired by true events, The Rite tells the tale of a young man who has lost faith in God and is sent by a superior priest to Rome to attend exorcism classes. Michael Kovak ( portrayed by Colin O’Donoghue, better known as Hook from Once Upon a Time), works a mortician alongside his father. When that life is no longer enough for him he decides to runaway to seminary school. With no real calling and a only a few months away from taking his vows, he sends sends a letter of resignation explaining his lack of faith and his skepticism in religion. His mentor at the school still sees potential in young Michael and decides to disregard his letter resignation. Instead, he offers to send him to Rome to attend classes the train students on exorcism. Michael, still skeptic of the religion and not believing he is qualified to be an exorcist goes to Rome anyway. When Michael questions the teaching at the Vatican, his father superior decides to send him to a local exorcist, Father Lucas Trevant (Anthony Hopkins). Father Lucas is as unorthodox as they come when looking for an exorcist. Will the two face a demon that even Father Lucas is not strong enough to defeat? Can Michael’s faith be restored in this thrilling film? I’m not one for exorcist movies, but this one chilled me to the bone and left me hollering at the characters. That, for me, is a sure sign of good movie. This movie was more about one man’s skepticism and finding his faith. I am in now way suggesting that someone needs to become an exorcist or be a Christian. I was only intrigued by the Michael’s journey and his take on possession before he became an exorcist. At one point, Father Lucas compares the Devil to a burglar or a thief. Michael’s response showed how people in general are always searching for the proof or a reason for a situation. "Gets complicated when no proof of the devil is somehow proof." (Michael Kovak) Anthony Hopkins puts on an amazing performance that had me riveted to me seat near the end. Colin O’Donoghue was something else. Born Irish, blue eyes and he lost his accent for this movie. His performance as Michael Kovak and his journey to faith was something I don’t think I’ll ever forget. Horns Review A friend and I decided to watch this movie on a whim. I’ll admit, due to the reviews from others I had my doubts about this one. Horns is a movie that many said wasn’t worth watching. I disagree with the masses on this one. What seemed like a dumb movie to many I found intriguing. One man finds horns growing from his forehead after the mysterious death of his girlfriend. Starring Daniel Radcliffe (also known famously as Harry Potter) as the troubled Ig Perish, this movie shows the darkest side of humanity. The horns bring the people’s darkest secrets to the surface. Can Ig use this new power from the horns to get to the bottom of his girlfriend’s death? The message from the horns and the suspense and mystery had me on the edge of my seat. I must also say I didn’t see the tear jerking moment in the film. This movie was better than the reviews portrayed. I would watch this one again just for some of the comebacks from Radcliffe. In a way something so serious was made comical. This film had a little of everything; comedy, suspense and romance. ~CeCe Cop Car Review This was an odd movie. One cop leaves his cop car in the middle of a field. Two kids decide to take a joy ride and claim the car as their own. The rest of the movie is a chase with the cop trying to locate the car and what he hid in it. Starring Kevin Bacon as the Sheriff who loses his car, I couldn’t believe I was watching it. It seemed so stupid and some of it didn’t seem well planned out by the writer. In one comment I saw on Youtube someone claimed it was Bacon’s best work. I still hold to this day the his best work was Footloose with The Following being a close second. For those that might be interested I’ll post the link but it’s not a movie that I recommend. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1B8dZbbpsrs&feature=share It’s been awhile since I watched this one. I forgot how heartwarming it was and eye opening to the littler things in life. A young man is left feeling down after losing he job, a situation many people can now relate. On top of that, he is called back to his hometown, Elizabethtown, when his father passes away. During his flight he meets a stewardess who will teach him a lesson or two about seeing the silver lining and picking oneself up after a failure. This romantic comedy stars Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst. Kirsten Dunst is the stewardess clearly taken with the distraught soul of one of her passengers. She even takes him on a journey to teach him a lesson in appreciation. Orlando Bloom is the stressed young Drew Baylor, out of a job and placed in the role of planning his father’s funeral all in the same day. While I don’t feel it was Orlando’s best film role, along side Kirsten Dunst the two had some decent on screen chemistry and a great lesson to teach in this adorable, heart warming film of loss and love. |
